Project purpose
To promote the physical and mental survival of the residents of the Boyarka community in conditions of warfare through creation of accessible public spaces equipped with light and heat.
The proximity of the Boyarka community to Kyiv (about 20 km) means that the war has a significant impact on the population: missile and drone attacks on the capital inevitably affect Boyarka. Due to massive attacks by the Russian Federation on energy infrastructure facilities, residents of the Boyarka community have had electricity for only 5-6 hours a day in January-February 2026, of which only 2-3 hours are during the day or in the evening. There are also emergency power cuts, when there may be no electricity for several days. The lack of electricity, heat, and, at times, even water, internet, and mobile connection is leading to development of depressive tendencies among the population.Community life has come to a standstill. There is no place where the people of Boyarka could gather in warmth and light for psychological rehabilitation events, emotional support, activism, or simply to warm up together and recharge their gadgets.
The Boyarka Community Foundation is making significant efforts to create a public space based on an old country house. This small building has access to water, heating and constant electrical supply. In order for the community to be able to use this space now, a small meeting room needs to be set up and an accessible toilet needs to be installed. The funds available to the Foundation for this work are insufficient to promptly open the public space to the population.
An accessible public space where people can gather even during blackouts will serve the Boyarka community for many years to come.
