Ivano-Frankivsk has the potential to become the first city in Ukraine to develop and implement a circular economy strategy! This, along with discussions on the development of cycling infrastructure, improvements in public transport, comprehensive waste processing, sustainable resource use in construction, and the expansion of pedestrian zones, was the focus of the “Circular Economy for Sustainable Urban Development” Forum, held on October 28.
Participants also drew inspiration from Vinnytsia’s experience, where the city administration engaged consultants to revitalize an urban square and a river area, creating a green corridor. This initiative will not only provide an additional recreational space for residents but also contribute to climate adaptation.
To develop a circular economy strategy for Ivano-Frankivsk, initial activities have already begun. The Teple Misto platform, together with its partners at MetaLab, has planned three research studies, the first of which has already been completed and presented at the forum. The next two studies have been announced.
Additionally, Ewelina Frelas-Tyczynska, a representative of the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship of Lublin, shared Lublin’s experience in developing a circular economy strategy and expressed willingness to support Ivano-Frankivsk in accelerating its ambitious plans.
The forum gathered representatives of environmental organizations, municipal authorities, eco-conscious businesses, scientists, and experts who are not only familiar with circular economy principles but are also committed to implementing them in cities across Ukraine.
Teple Misto intends to make the “Circular Economy for Sustainable Urban Development” Forum an annual event.
