The role of data, analytics and artificial intelligence in philanthropy.

Last week, our team attended the Philea (Philanthropy Europe Association) conference, which took place on February 6-7 in Copenhagen. Two days of intensive discussions about the role of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence in philanthropy.

Key topics of the event:

  • Data as a foundation for strategic decision-making in the public sector. Proper analytics help prioritize and plan activities more effectively.
  • Artificial intelligence opens new opportunities for mapping initiatives and finding solutions to social issues.
  • Transition from one-time project support to a systemic approach, which helps address problems in the long term.

We also visited Thoravej 29 – a unique space that implements the concept of “What if a building could completely rethink and repurpose itself?” From basement to rooftop, materials from the building itself are reused for space transformation.

Key insights:

  • Philanthropy and community: Ukraine’s perspective

Ukraine demonstrates a resilient approach to philanthropy even in the challenging conditions of war. For the past three years, we have been communicating about it both within the country and to an international audience.

  • Successful cases inspire more than dry reports, so it’s important to communicate them first.

Networking as an invisible connection

The network of organizations resembles a forest ecosystem archipelago, where all elements are interconnected. Partnerships and collaborations create a powerful support system.

Just like mushrooms, islands, and bees survive through connections, network organizations operate in the same way.

  • The importance of data in the public sector

Data is a powerful tool for strategic decision-making in the public sector. It enables more effective planning, prioritization of projects, and expansion of initiatives based on real community needs.
Organizations that use data for planning have a higher chance of success and sustainable impact.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) in philanthropy

Artificial intelligence is finding its place in philanthropy, opening new possibilities for analysis and initiative management.
AI enables philanthropic project mapping at the regional or national level, allowing for the identification of gaps in support.
By leveraging AI, organizations can analyze data faster and find innovative solutions to social problems.

  • Shifting towards comprehensive support

European philanthropic organizations are gradually shifting their focus from one-time project support to systemic support.
A comprehensive approach helps address social issues in the long term. This model not only tackles current challenges but also creates conditions to prevent them in the future.

  • Conclusion

The future of philanthropy lies in combining analytics, modern technologies, and a systemic approach.
Data, artificial intelligence, and comprehensive support have the potential to make the public sector more efficient and impactful.
